Choosing the Right Jewelry

Choosing jewelry starts with understanding the materials, finishes, and care requirements of each piece.

Moissanite

Moissanite is a gemstone valued for its brilliance and fire. Although it is durable, neither the stone nor its setting should be treated as indestructible.

The durability of a finished piece also depends on its metal, plating, construction, and how it is worn and maintained. Protect your jewelry from impacts and avoid wearing it during activities that could bend the setting or damage the finish.

For details about stone color, materials, and any certificate supplied with a particular piece, check its product description. Do not assume that documentation or treatments are identical across all moissanite products.

Moissanite Care: Common Questions

Will moissanite change color over time?

A stone's appearance can be affected by surface residue, lighting, and any coating or treatment it may have. We do not make a blanket lifetime color guarantee for every moissanite color or treatment.

For colored moissanite, follow the instructions supplied for that particular piece. If treatment information is not listed, contact us before using machine cleaning or specialist cleaning products.

Why does my moissanite look cloudy or less brilliant?

Oils, lotions, soap residue, and other deposits on or beneath a stone can reduce its visible sparkle. A dull appearance does not by itself establish that the gemstone has changed internally.

Start with gentle cleaning suitable for the entire piece. If cloudiness or a change in appearance remains, have the jewelry inspected by a qualified jeweler rather than trying stronger chemicals or abrasive polishing.

Is ultrasonic cleaning safe?

Do not decide based on the moissanite alone. Ultrasonic cleaning must be suitable for the setting, metal, finish, accent stones, and any stone treatments.

Prong and bezel settings: The setting style alone does not confirm that machine cleaning is safe. Have a jeweler check the security of the stone and the suitability of the materials first.
Pavé, micro-set, channel-set, and multi-stone designs: Choose gentle hand cleaning unless a jeweler approves ultrasonic cleaning after inspecting the piece. Loose stones require repair before cleaning.
Plated or coated jewelry: Do not use an ultrasonic cleaner unless the care instructions for that specific piece permit it.
Glued components or mixed materials: Avoid machine cleaning unless the manufacturer explicitly confirms that it is suitable.

Is steam cleaning safe?

Steam cleaning is not our default recommendation for at-home care. Heat and pressure may be unsuitable for some finishes, treatments, components, or damaged settings.

Have a qualified jeweler assess the complete piece before steam cleaning. Do not assume that approval for ultrasonic cleaning also means approval for steam cleaning.

How should I clean moissanite jewelry at home?

Follow the product-specific instructions first and choose the method suitable for the most delicate material in the piece.

Check for loose stones, bent prongs, or other damage. If anything appears loose or damaged, stop and have the piece inspected.
If wet cleaning is suitable for the piece, use lukewarm water with a small amount of mild soap.
Gently clean the stone with a very soft brush. Avoid force around prongs and small accent stones, and do not scrub plated surfaces.
Rinse carefully in a bowl or over a closed drain. Do not leave jewelry resting near an open drain.
Pat dry with a soft, lint-free cloth and allow the piece to dry fully before storing it.

Avoid prolonged soaking unless the product instructions permit it. Do not immerse pieces with glued components or materials that are unsuitable for wet cleaning. For delicate finishes, start with a soft cloth lightly dampened with water.

Avoid abrasive cleaners, toothpaste, bleach, household cleaning chemicals, and sudden temperature changes. Do not use metal-polishing products on a plated finish unless they are specifically approved for it.

How often should I clean it?

Gently wipe the piece after wear and clean it when visible residue develops. There is no single cleaning schedule suitable for every design, finish, or wearing habit.

Gold Vermeil

Gold vermeil uses a sterling silver base with a gold finish. Refer to the individual product page for the specifications stated for that piece.

The gold surface can wear with use. Avoid abrasive polishing, friction, and cleaning methods that are not approved for the finish.

Sterling Silver

Sterling silver contains 92.5% silver alloyed with other metals. It can tarnish over time and may require care appropriate to its finish.

Check whether your piece is unplated, gold-plated, or rhodium-plated before choosing a silver cleaner. A product intended for bare silver may be unsuitable for a plated piece.

Rhodium-Plated Jewelry

Rhodium plating provides a bright surface finish. The underlying metal is listed on the individual product page.

Plating can wear over time, particularly in areas exposed to friction. Use gentle cleaning and avoid abrasive polishing unless specifically approved for the piece.

Gold-Plated Sterling Silver

These pieces combine a sterling silver base with a gold-plated surface. The gold finish requires different care from bare sterling silver.

Avoid abrasive cleaners and polishing that could remove the finish. The appearance and longevity of plating depend on wear, friction, storage, and care.

Gold-Plated Jewelry

Gold-plated jewelry has a gold surface over the base metal specified in its product description. It should not be treated as solid gold.

No plated finish is guaranteed to remain unchanged with wear. Gentle handling and appropriate care help reduce unnecessary wear on the surface.

Gold-Plated Eco-Brass

Selected designs are listed with an Eco-Brass base and a gold-plated finish. Refer to the product description for the stated materials.

Protect the plated surface from abrasion and avoid soaking or machine cleaning unless the product instructions permit it.

Gold-Plated Stainless Steel

These pieces combine a stainless steel base with a gold-plated finish. Care should take the surface finish into account, not just the underlying steel.

Do not assume that a stainless steel base makes every plated piece suitable for swimming, showering, or chemical exposure.

Gold-Plated Eco-Zinc Alloy

Use gentle surface cleaning and avoid prolonged moisture, abrasive polishing, and unapproved cleaning chemicals.

Everyday Jewelry Care

Store jewelry separately in a clean, dry place to reduce contact and scratches.
Remove jewelry before swimming, showering, exercising, or handling household cleaning products.
Apply perfume, lotions, and cosmetics before putting on your jewelry, and allow them to dry first.
Gently wipe jewelry after wear with a soft, lint-free cloth.
Avoid impacts, pulling chains, and pressure that could bend a setting.
Check clasps and stone settings periodically. Stop wearing a piece if a stone or component feels loose.
